A Really Long Break...sort of

I'm back, at least today I am. We have had a really whirlwind, no pun intended, kind of month.

If you have read one of my books you know I live in Galveston near the beach. What many may not know is that Galveston is an island right off the coast of Texas which happens to be not too far from where Hurricane Harvey decided to land about a month ago. While we were EXTREMELY fortunate that we had little to no damage (just some minor things because of the hurricane force winds) we were effected by the inability to travel. It wasn't just us not being able to basically leave the island but nothing was able to get onto the island for almost a week. Groceries and gas were scarce. Luckily we had full pantry and refrigerators and it was only myself and my husband. Our youngest son was staying with his older brother in Oklahoma (for longer than we planned). We had to wait a week before we could even get him home because roads, highways, and tolls closed everywhere and the airports in Houston were shut down and inaccessible.

Upon my youngest arriving back home we began school. Many schools in Texas remained closed and so unfortunately, the schools of Aransas County, where Harvey landed, are closed indefinitely. All 52 schools in that county were severely damaged or completely destroyed.

Regardless, we began school because my son is homeschooled. And while we generally have the liberty of adjusting our school schedule to accommodate travel or other interruptions, we do try to move along with public schools because all of his friends attend public school. It was time for us to get back into the swing of school and a whole new grade level of work. This means that a large portion of my time, at least in the beginning, is helping HIM get back in the swing as it is. This is a busy year because we decided to add learning a foreign language and a humanities course. There is just nothing like watching your child's mind and vision blossom!

Just this weekend have I felt that I have some wiggle room to start attending to my work and leisure as it is. Hopefully more posts and pictures will be forthcoming and hopefully book three will be completed before the Holidays. I'm not holding my breath or myself to that notion but it is a goal.

Here is one the feathered friends who will in the new book. I hope you enjoy. Hummingbirds are one my most favorite creatures on Earth.
